Cpl. Ryan served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre. He was severely wounded in action during the Battle of Sugar Loaf Hill on Okinawa; his twin brother Keith was killed in this action. Kenneth was awarded the Purple Heart.
