Harold Edward “Bud" Bloomquist was born Sept. 29, 1921 to August B. and Adelia Speer Bloomquist. He died Dec. 18, 1944 (at sea) and has a cenotaph in Penn Center Cemetery, Penn Township, Madison County, IA.

Petty Officer Bloomquist served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Spence (DD-512) and lost his life when his ship sank in a fierce typhoon.
