Harold served in World War II with the U.S. Navy at the Naval Ammunition Depot, Oahu, Hawaii and aboard the USS Henderson (AP-1), USS McCall (DD-400), USS Chanticleer (ASR-7), and USS Okaloosa (APA-219). He also served with the Coast Guard.
