Samuel Halstead Ware was born Feb. 14, 1915 to James C. and Carrie Kay Ware. He died May 4, 1949 and is buried in Saint Joseph Cemetery New, Iowa City, IA. Sgt. Ware served in World War II with the U.S. Army Medical Dept.

Robert Emmett Whitehand was born Mar. 12, 1910 to Robert and Beatrice Whitehand. He died Mar. 27, 1945 and is buried in Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, Belgium. 

Capt. Whitehand served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps Headquarters, 3rd Air Division. He was a Navigator on B-17G “Butch II” and was KIA southwest of Dunkirk, France. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Air Medal and Purple Heart. Capt. Whitehead served as historian of the 3rd Air Force.
