Vern Harry Grandstaff was born Nov. 5, 1926 to Freddie Edward “Ed” and Erma Maxine Shockley Grandstaff. He died Apr. 28, 1945 and is buried in Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, IA.

Petty Officer Grandstaff served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was KIA on Okinawa in the service of his country.

Horace Byron Guessford was born Sept. 15, 1909 to James R. and Mary Isabelle Scarborough Guessford. He died Aug. 5, 1947 and is buried in Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, IA.

1st Lt. Guessford served in World War II with the U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps.
