Richard Paul “Paul” Austin was born May 10, 1920 to Christian and Andrina Johnson Austin. He died at sea and has a cenotaph in Crystal Lake Township Cemetery, Crystal Lake, IA.
Petty Officer Austin served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ingraham (DD-444) and lost his life off the coast of Nova Scotia after a collision with the tanker Chemung in a heavy fog.
