Richard William Sowden was born June 9, 1927 to Robert A. and Rosemary M. Brockelman Sowden. He died Sept. 27, 1947 and is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Burlington, IA.

Petty Officer Sowden served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.
