Charles Leland “Lee” Dozark was born Dec. 31, 1915 to Charles and Agnes Pearl Ryan Dozark. He was lost at sea Apr. 6, 1945 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 5, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii and at Saint Albert Cemetery, Dundee, IA.
Lt. Dozark served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hyman (DD-732). He was awarded the Navy Cross and Purple Heart for his attempts to save fellow crewmen after the deck of his ship was hit by a Japanese kamikaze pilot in the Battle of Okinawa. Before the engagement ended 10 sailors were killed, two were MIA and over forty were wounded.
