Hugh Joseph Moran was born May 5, 1922 to Laurence John and Mary Lydia Murphy Moran. He died Mar. 9, 1944 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, England.

Petty Officer Moran served in World War II with the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USS Leopold (DE-319) which was struck by an acoustic torpedo fired from the German submarine U-255. He was MIA/FOD/KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
