George Ludwig Johannes Eckhardt was born Mar. 30, 1910 to Louis and Bertha Eckhardt. He died Nov. 12, 1944. He was buried in a U.S. Military Cemetery in Eastern France and has a cenotaph in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield, IA. 

Sgt. Eckhardt served with the U.S. Army Infantry in World War II. He was wounded in the Normandy Invasion and awarded the Purple Heart and Infantry Expert Combat Badge.

Elmer served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-24 pilot.
