Petty Officer Pender served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) and was MIA/KIA in the service of his country. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Richard Dale Peterson AKA Richard Dale Johnson was born Aug. 10, 1917 to Gustave “Gus” and Elnora Esther Moltz Peterson. He died Oct. 24, 2019 and is buried in Barnes Township Cemetery, Linn Grove, IA. After his mother’s death he was raised by Guvtave’s sister and husband, Mathilda and John A. Johnson.

Lt. Col. Peterson served in World War II with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served with Gen. Omar Bradley’s 12th Army Group in England, France and Germany. He received the Bronze Star and the French Croix de Guerre.
