Buryl Clair Hemerick was born May 19, 1918 to Albert David and Carrie E. Avery Hemerick. He died Sept. 28, 1980 and is buried in Victor Valley Memorial Park, Victorville, CA. Buryl served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Etlar August Henningsen was born Oct. 24, 1916 to Julius August and Methea Jorgine Krog Henningsen. He died Aug. 11, 2014 and is buried in Newell Cemetery, Newell, IA.

Capt. Henningsen served in World War II with the U.S. Army mobile tank destroyer unit under the 14th Armored Division, the “Liberators”, that started their tour of duty in North Africa under General Patton and then mobilized in Italy, France, and Germany. He was a company commander of the attack tanks who led the charge against Rommel’s Panzers in multiple battles in North Africa. They continued fighting with the Allied forces up the Italian peninsula, fighting battles at Salerno, Monte Cassino, and Anzio among many.
