1st Lt. Fratzke served in World War II with the U.S. Army First Infantry Division as a photo interpreter for Army Intelligence. He served in Arica and Sicily for a year before returning to England to participate in the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. He was wounded and captured by the Germans and was a POW for 10 months and was awarded the Purple Heart.
