Virgle Vern Prior was born Jan. 14, 1918 to Oliver W. and May Aleen Palmer. He died June 27, 1944 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, England and has a cenotaph in Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, IA.
Sgt. Prior served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 713th Bomber Squadron, 448th Bomber Group, Heavy and was MIA/FOD/KIA as a crew member of a B-24 (Liberator) aircraft that departed on a bombing mission to Creil, France and did not return to its base from the bombing mission. He was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
