Donald James Humphrey was born July 1, 1919 to James T. and Grace Cool Humphrey. He died Feb. 17, 1999 and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Kingston, OH.

Lt. Col. Humphrey served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 20th Bomber Command, 20th Air Force as the pilot of “Postville Express”, a B-29 Superfortress, the first to drop bombs on Japan’s mainland. He was later shot down in a second raid on Singapore and became a Japanese POW.
