William served in World War II with the U.S. Navy as an X-ray Technician with the Special Augmented Hospitals #7 and 8 in Okinawa.

Robert Carithers Bachtell was born Jan. 12, 1922 to Ralph William and Gertrude K. Prior Bachtell. He died Feb. 19, 1992 an is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

Col. Bachtell served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 336th, 309th and 340th Bomb Groups. 12th Air Force and was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses and 11 Air Medals.
