An excellent farm property situated on section 22, Danville Township, Worth County, is being further developed and improved by Tilford S. Gilbertson, who has here one hundred and sixty acres which he has brought under a high state of cultivation. He was born in Spring Grove, Houston county, Minnesota, on the 8th of November, 1873, his parents being Sven and Sarah (Burg) Gilbertson, both of whom were natives of Norway, the mother's birth having occurred in the year 1848. The father left his native country during his boyhood days in company with his parents, who settled in Rock county, Wisconsin, and there he worked as a farm hand for a time. He afterward removed to Houston County, Minnesota, where he purchased land and began farming on his own account. He was married in that locality, after which he operated his farm in Minnesota for a number of years but later came to Worth county and purchased land in Danville township, becoming the owner of the tract of one hundred and sixty acres that is now in possession of his son, Tilford S. This farm he carefully cultivated and developed, making his home thereon for a number of years. Eventually he removed to Denson County, North Dakota, where he purchased one hundred and sixty acres of improved land, which he continued to operate until his death. His wife died at the home of their son, Tilford S., December 18, 1916, at the age of seventy-six years. Her father had died while the family was on the ocean en route for the new world, and her brother with the family afterward went to Wisconsin, in which state she made her home with him in Rock county. After her son married she lived with him until her death. Both Mr. and Mrs. Gilbertson were members of the Norwegian Lutheran church and his political support was given to the Democratic Party.

Tilford S. Gilbertson spent his boyhood days in Minnesota to the age of five years and was then brought to his present farm by his parents. His education was acquired in Danville township and he early became familiar with the duties and labors of the farm, practical experience bringing him adequate knowledge of the best methods of tilling the soil and caring for the crops. In 1915 he purchased his farm from his mother and through the intervening period has further concentrated his efforts and attention upon its continued development and improvement. It yields to him excellent harvests because his methods of cultivation are progressive and in his work he takes the deepest interest.

On June 28, 1902, Mr. Gilbertson was united in marriage to Miss Anna Orpen, a daughter of Amon and Anna Orpen. Mrs. Gilbertson was born in Brookfield Township, Worth County, while her parents are natives of Norway, coming to the United States in early life. They settled first in Minnesota but afterward removed to Worth county and are now living upon their farm in Brookfield township. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbertson have become the parents of two children, Alvin and Hannah. They are people of genuine worth, enjoying the goodwill and confidence of all who know them, and their circle of friends son loyally adhere to the is constantly increasing. Both Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert loyally adhere to the teachings of the Norwegian Lutheran church, while he votes with the republican party, which he has supported since casting his first presidential ballot. He is a typical resident of the middle west, alert and energetic, possessing the spirit of enterprise and improvement which has been the dominating factor in the up-building of this section of the country.
