Charles H. Dwelle
Charles Horace Dwelle, assistant cashier of the Worth County State Bank of Northwood, was born November 27, 1882 , in the city in which he still makes his home, a son of Horace V. and Helen E. (Hinman) Dwelle. He is numbered among the descendants in the fourth generation of Abner Dwelle, who was a captain of the American army in the Revolutionary war. Alphonso Dwelle, his son, was the father of Horace V. Dwelle. The latter is a native of New York and became one of the pioneer settlers of Worth county, Iowa , where he holds the record for the longest service in county office of any person who has occupied a position of public trust in Worth county. His wife, a native of Vermont , is a granddaughter of Timothy Hinman, one of the survivors of Wayne 's army that stormed Stony Point , and a daughter of Ezra Hinman.
Charles H. Dwelle pursued his education in the schools of Northwood until graduated from the high school with the class of 1900. He afterward attended the Nora Springs Seminary and Business College , where he completed the scientific and commercial courses in 1901. He also attended the Capital City Commercial College of Des Moines in 1901-02, but left that institution before graduation to accept a position in The Worth County State Bank, with which he has since been identified, now serving in the capacity of assistant cashier. He is also one of the directors of the institution and has extended his efforts in the field of banking to connection with several other institutions, being a director of the Farmers State Bank of Gordonsville, Minnesota, of the First State Bank of Myrtle, Minnesota, and of the Security Bank at Meltonville, Iowa. He is treasurer of the Farmers' Mutual Insurance Association of Worth county and treasurer of the Worth County Agricultural Society.
On the 26th of July, 1905 , in Greenwich , New York , Mr. Dwelle was married to Miss Alice A. White, a daughter of Charles D. White, who represented one of the old families of Washington county, New York . Mrs. Dwelle was educated in the Northwood high school and in the Francis Shinier Academy at Mount Carroll , Illinois . To Mr. and Mrs. Dwelle have been born three children: Horace Charles, Arlene and Dorothy Caroline. >Mr. and Mrs. Dwelle are members of the Baptist church. He is prominent in Masonic circles, belonging to Northern Light Lodge, No. 266, A. F. & A. M., of Northwood, of which he was master in 1913, and is now its treasurer. He also has membership with Heredom Chapter, No. 135, Royal Arch Masons, and Antioch Commandery, No. 43, Knights Templar, and is a member of Northern Light Chapter, No. 262, O. E. S., of which he was worthy patron in 1915 and 1916. He was likewise a member of the board of managers from 1915 until I917, inclusive, of Worth Camp, M. W. A. Mrs. Dwelle holds the office of Grand Electa in the Grand Chapter of the Order of the, Eastern Star in Iowa and is a past matron of Northern Light Chapter, No. 262, of Northwood, having served as its chief officer in 1916. She likewise has membership with the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mr. Dwelle is interested in all plans and measures which have proven effective forces for the public good, and from 1905 until 1911 he served as secretary of the board of education. He has given faithful service and loyal support to his friends, and to the institutions and organizations with which he has been identified during his mature years.
