Note on the W.P.A. information
The Works Progress Administration ( A.K.A. the Works Projects Administration, W.P.A), was created on May 6, 1935, so nothing was started before this date. The program ended on February 1, 1943, so nothing after this date was done. Actually the work was done by a sub-division called "Historical Records Survey" (H.R.S) which was a project of the W.P.A.. Originally it was a part of the Federal Writers Project, official mission statement "discovery, preservation, and listing of basic materials for research in the history of the United States." After sometime it was known as independent sub-division of the "Federal One" in October 1936, and in 1939 thne it became part of the National Archives Research and Records Program, Professional and Service Division.
Problems have been found, but this was still a part of history. So it is very important to cite your source. Some of the problems were, but not limited to, mis-spelled names, wrong dates and simply mis-typed transcripts from hand written records. Some of these records were copied so many times that there are inherited mistakes.
As many sources that were available at the time were used by the W.P.A. workers, including but not limited to courthouse records, newspaper obituaries, sexton books. If you have any more input on the W.P.A. information please submit it.
