The vital statistics collected by each assessor, as by law required, afford some interesting Items, at least it is so In those gathered by Mr. Chas. McMasters, the assessor In Decorah corporation. He found the number of deaths during the year to be 57, or over 20 more than those of
1898. Investigation as to the why of this increase disclosed that it was owing to the surprising number of elderly people who, having lived close up to the allotted years, were called hence. More than half those who died were over fifty. The exact figures are:
Under fifty 27, over fifty 30. |
By decades the statistics are:
Under 10 years old ................8 From 10 to 20 years old ..........4 From 20 to 30 years old ..........8 From 30 to 40 years old
..........6 From 40 to 50 years old ......... 1 From 50 to 60 years old ......... 3 From 60 to 70 years old .........10 From 70 to 80 years old
