THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION. |
The Republican County Convention which met in Decorah on the 21st of September, was called to order at 1:30 p. m. by Hon. J. B. Kaye, who on behalf of the County Central Committee, named J. H. Easton, of Decorah, as temporary chairman of the convention. Mr. Easton upon taking tho chair made a short, crisp speech, after which E. M. Carter, of Hesper, was chosen as temporary secretary.
On motion the chair appointed as committee on credentials, one person from each supervisor district as follows:
M. J. Nicholson, L. O. Moen, A. S. Rivers, E. O. Schjeoldahl and A. W. Rich.
The chair also appointed in like manner, as a committee on permanent organization the following named persons: Geo. M. Anderson, J. S. Roome, A. H. Meader and G. R. Willett.

On motion report adopted and committee discharged.
Committe on permanent organization reported as permanent
officers of the convention, G. R. Willett, chairman, E. M. Carter, secretary, and Ole S. Thompson, assistant secretary. Report adopted.
On motion the convention adopted the rule that candidates be nominated by an informal ballot.
On motion proceeded to an informal ballot for Representative, which resulted as follows:—Nels Larson 44, M. J. Nicholson 20, E. S. Lambert 15, W. H. Klemme 25, A. Jacobson 2, C. O. Maltby 12, James Cameron 6.
On motion a formal ballot was ordered with the following result:—Larson 48, Nicholson-28, Klemme 25, Lambert 10, Maltby 10.
A second formal ballot resulted as follows:—Larson 51, Klemme 34, Nicholson 25, Lambert 5, Maltby 12.
At the close of the second formal ballot, Mr. Nicholson in a neat little speech withdrew ‘‘in favor of any good man,”
A third formal ballot had the following result:—Larson 66, Klemme 52, Maltby 9. Mr. Larson having received a majority of all the votes cast was declared tho nominee of the convention for the ofllce of Representative, and on motion of Mr. Klemme the nomination was made unanimous.
On motion, convention proceeded to ballot for a candidate for the offlce of Sheriff, as follows:—Informal—H. M. Lnngland 30, C. Christen 37, L. E. Davidson 55. 1st formal:—Davidson 59, Christen 49, Langland 19. 2d formal:— Christen 64, Davidson 61, Langland 2.
On motion the nomination of Christen was made unanimous.
[Before the balloting on Sheriff began Wm. McLain and Mr. Haugen, of Canoe, were voted seats in the convention.]
The convention next proceeded to ballot for Auditor, with the following result:—Informal—J. W. Daubney 92, L. M. Enger 17, A. L. Haakenson 18.
Formal:—J. W. Daubney 100, L. M. Enger 7, Christen 3, Haakenson 11.
The nomination of J. W. Daubney as Auditor was on motion made unanimous.
Balloting for Treasurer was then ordered And resulted as follows:—Informal— C. F. Barfoot 70 5/8, G. C. Toye 37 3/8, C. O. Malty 13, H.M. Langland 7.
