And a Full Report of the Business Transacted—The Good Times the Vets had not Reportable.

The fourteenth reunion of the 38th Iowa Volunteer Infantry was held In Decorah, Wednesday and Thursday, June 12th and 13th Headquarters were opened at the G. A R. post room In this city at 10 a. m. on the 12th and comrades soon commenced arriving By six o’clock In the evening forty-six comrades had registered and quarters had been provided for them. Comrade John R. Cook, of West Union, gave a very interesting account of the work done by the commissioners on behalf of the state In locating the national park at Vicksburg Mr. Cook was one of the commissioners and he detailed minutely the location of the position of the 38th Iowa In the siege of Vicksburg.. This Included an Interesting description of the regiment during the siege and the condition of the works as they are at the present time.

The report was so satisfying that on motion a vote of thanks was tendered Comrade Cook for his action in this matter, as well as for his interesting report. Other remarks and reminiscences pertinent to the subject were made by other comrades and after a well spent evening the association adjourned to meet at 8 a. m. on Thursday.

Thursday morning the association met for a business session. The reports of the president and secretary in regard to the action they had taken to secure means for publishing the history of the regiment were read and their action in the matter approved

Another interesting and urgent appeal was made by Comrade S. Eugene Tubbs, of Superior, Wis., in favor of completing the history of the regiment and providing for the publication thereof. Mr. Tubbs has been at work for three or more years compiling such a history as is contemplated and now has it almost ready for publication.

Remarks to the same purport were made by Comrade Burgess, heartily endorsing the proposition to print.

On motion Comrade Cook, of West Union, was chosen to act as financial agent for the association to raise the sum required for printing the history, also that he appoint his own assistants.

It was requested the comrades notify Mr Cook of the number of copies they would take and when ready to print be would notify them of the assessment that would be necessary to make the publication.

Comrade E. E Fitch, of Galva, ILL., also gave an interesting talk on regimental history.

The question of holding the next reunion then came up. After a general discussion of some length It was decided to hold It on the first Wednesday and Thursday In October, 1902, and New Hampton was chosen as the place.

Dr. A. Babcock, of New Hampton, was, chosen president of the association for the ensuing year, and he was allowed to appoint his own secretary.

A vote of thanks was tendered the officers of the association for the past year. Adjourned for dinner.

The afternoon session convened at 2 p. m The afternoon was spent In an Informal conference and also in reading letters from absent members. Among them was one from tho widow of Major Beebe who died on the 15th of January last. On motion, the secretary was Instructed to acknowledge receipt of same and to convoy to her the regards and sympathy with her in her bereavement.

Adjourned until 6:30, p. m., when the convention re-assembled at headquarters and marched to the residence o! Mrs. D. .H. Hughes, widow of Col. Hughes, of pleasant memory to the members of the 38th. Refreshments were served and a visit paid that was enjoyed by every one who participated.

At a later hour, tho association was again called to order at the post room where the following resolutions were presented and adopted:—

Notes:—So far as known, not a single staff officer of the old regiment is now alive unless it be Major Hodnett, who has passed out of the knowledge of the membership by removal to Michigan. Of the line officers Lieutenant T J. Butcher, of Co. H, now a resident of Forest City, and Lieutenant Ferren, of this city, were the only ones present. Comrade S. E. Tubbs came all the way from Superior to be present. He never misses a meeting. Comrade Fitch came from Galva, ILL. He was next farthest away. It is noticeable that the comrades grow feebler each year and it is painful to contemplate that in a few years, at most, the survivors will be but a feeble handful.
