Paul Gerlich, chief observer of the Ground Observer Corps, announced that a specialized air force training team will instruct local G.O.G. members during a meeting at the opera house.

The annual municipal financial statement disclosed receipts of $30,756 and expenditures of $29,697. The town's indebtedness was listed as $34,000 and the valuation of taxable property put at $1,013,248.

James Felix announced that the Ossian Theatre will feature "Family Night" on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The entire family, regardless of size, will be admitted for one dollar on family nights.

The Kelly Tavern advertised 5¢ beer on May 22nd. The proprietor offered to swap a beer for a jumbo sized egg.

Fifteen seniors graduated from De Sales this spring. They were: Clarinda Bodensteiner, Sharlene Bushman, Floyd Ehler, Catherine Funke, Orville Hanken, Carol Holtey, Audrey Kleve, Joel Klisart, Eunice Lansing, Inez Lansing, Kenneth Schmitz, Sylvan Thuente, Sheryl Wallmark, Leonilla Kleve and Robert Reilly.

The Bee again neglected to list the graduates from 0 .H .S . However, the students, who attended a baseball game at Milwaukee on Senior Day are listed.

We assume they are the members of the graduating class. They were: Irma Anfinson, Linda Ames, Harriet Bachtell, Virgil Birdsell, Elizabeth Fiskerbeck, Dale Blumhagen, Jean Felix, Lois Jaster, Audrey Linderbaum, Shirley Peck, Leota Rawson and Wayne Schweinifus.

Miss Audrey Linderbaum, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Carl Linderbaum, was selected as Miss Winneshiek in a popularity contest. She reigned over the Independence Day celebration at Decorah.

Art's Roller Rink and adjoining grounds served as host for several events in 1954: soft ball and Junior baseball every week; an Independence Day celebration, complete with fireworks. A horse show, with 118 entries, was judged by Harry Hubbard and Cleo Cahill on August 1st.

Bargain Days were held by Ossian merchants in September. Some of the special bargains follow; Frudden Lumber—$60 per thousand board feet of lumber; Wessels Variety—nylon hosiery @ 59¢; Schmitz Furniture—Restonic mattress @ $39-50; Brockman Grocery—2 boxes of 300 size Kleenex for 45¢; Gunderson Department Store —rayon tablecloths @ 92¢; Bohr's Market—pork & beans, 11 cans for $1; Chuck's Standard Station—antifreeze, $2.25 a gal.; Union Produce Co.—flock feeders @ $9; Sampson Cleaners—two piece suit cleaned for $1; and Schroeder Clothing— men's suits @ $17.50.

Some 1800 Sunday dinners were served this year by the ladies of St. Francis Parish during the annual church festival. There were 48 prizes, donated by the local business houses, granted to the holders of the winning tickets.

Francis Giblin, buttermaker and manager of the Silver Springs Creamery, was elected president of the Iowa Creamery Operators Association for the eleventh consecutive year.

Mary Louise Schulze, daughter of Herman and Hazel Schulze, was presented with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' award for achieving the highest scholastic rank during her first two years at the State University of Iowa's College of Engineering. Mary Louise served as president of Curier Hall; was selected as a member of the Mortar Board—the National Honorary Society of College Women; and was the recipient of the first badge ever awarded to a woman by the S. U. I. chapter of Tau Beta Pi.
