ignation of H. P. Nicholson. Mayor Allen resigned this post later in the year and Attorney Lloyd Strand accepted the office.

This year's municipal financial statement lists receipts of $9741 and disbursements of $9564. The total indebtedness is now only $500.

L. J. Radtke resigned his post of superintendent of the public school. He has accepted a position with the Red Cross. Radtke was replaced by Edward Shelton. The other teachers on the faculty were: Mrs. Thearon Hauge, Helen Feller and Mary Rhinehard—high school; Loretto McGary, La Vonne Miller and Laura Marie Riveland—grades .

These students received diplomas from O.H.S. this year: Helen Sand, Irma Witt, Angela Huber, Dorothy Schulze, Opal Fosaaen, Gladys Hanson, Jean Knudsvig, Jacqueline Sand, Robert Harvey and Albert Tinderholt.

The following were graduates from De Sales; Imelda Bonfig, Rita Holthaus, Irvin Hemesath, Thomas Johnson, Bruno Lensing, Mary Jean Malloy, Ann Nesbit, Geneva Schultz, William Weier and Genevieve Wolfe.

An epidemic of influenza struck the community in December. The Catholic school was closed for two days following absenteeism totaling 132 students. As many as 43 were missing from the public school's student body.

The results of the municipal election this year were: Lloyd Strand, mayor; A. S. Andresen, treasurer; John Moe, assessor; and Gus Klisart, Frank Peyer, Will Helwig, Henry Dessel and Elmer Rosa—councilmen. A. J. Hemesath was retained as marshal and water, street and sewer commissioner at a salary of $115 a month.

Superintendent E. J. Shelton, and senior Albert Valland, were honored at a theater party by members of the graduating class. Both of these men will enter military service.

This year's graduates from the public school were: Sylvia Johnson, Eleanor Johnson, Verna Torkelson, Verna Amdahl, Lorraine Nerlie, Jacqueline Brown, Norma Koch, Eulalia Martens, Betty Stanz, Kermit Anfinson, Jerome Meyer, Albert Valland, Brian Gilbert, Donald Schroeder, Silas Sevatson and Gerald Oyloe.

The students receiving diplomas at De Sales high included: Corrine Wiltgen, Marcellite Hertges, Imogene Moellers, Dorothy Hertges, Gertrude Rosenbaum, Lorraine Lansing, Rose Uhlenhake, Bruno Schildmeyer, Richard Leuenberger, Harold Bengfort, Mary Dessel, Joan Peyer, Betty Timp, Paul Gerlich, Clem Blocker Jr., Gregory Remke, Leo Costigan, Joseph Gerleman, Mary Bigler and Catherine Huinker.

There were six new teachers on the staff at O.P.S. this fall with Loretto McGary the only holdover. They were; Harold Littelle, superintendent; Mrs. Agatha Littelle, Helen Evans, Averie Patridge, Helen Lockwood and Mrs. Emma Bothel.

Over two hundred pupils are expected to register at De Sales this fall. Their teaching staff has been expanded to nine.

The high school students from both schools were given chest x-rays in an attempt to erradicate tuberculosis in the state.

A cigarette shortage developed in Ossian. Local addicts were reduced to rolling their own or smoking a pipe for a whole weekend. No doubt about it—WAR IS HELL!

Cahill's Market offered "point-free" beef for sale in a price range of 19¢ to 29¢ a pound. They also reported an abundant supply of ice cream at 33¢ a quart.

Francis Giblin, buttermaker at Silver Springs Creamery, was elected president of the Iowa Creamery Association at their state convention.
