The Figge Auto Company now has the franchise for Chevrolet automobiles. They advertise a price range of $495 to $675.

H. P. Nicholson, manager of the Silver Springs Creamery, reports that this company has had a banner year. The total sales were $192,379. The average price paid for butterfat was 50.15¢ per pound.

The Jefferson Transportation Company has established a bus route between Minneapolis and Cedar Rapids. Cole's Cafe will serve as a station on the way.

Two complete slates of candidates vied for city offices this year. The winners were: H. P. Nicholson, mayor; A. S. Andresen, treasurer; John Moe, assessor; W. E. Cornell, John Collins, Selmer Grovdahl, Will Helwig and Otto Lee, council members. Anton Hemesath was retained as marshal and street commissioner.

The city tax roll for this year lists Ossian's banks as the largest taxpayers at $1293 and $1156. Individual assessments ranged from a low of $1.66 to a high of $386 paid by Will Collins. Ted Scheidel again had the "privilege" of paying the highest tax in Military township—$634.

A county-wide essay writing contest on the merits of butter vs margarine was won by a Cresco scholar with Blanche Rosa placing second. Other students from Ossian who received monetary awards were; Adolpha Gunderson, Viola Peck, Norma Lee, Mary DeCou, Lillian Jermeland and Lois Olson.

Miss Olson, a pupil in the seventh grade at O.P.S, was declared champion of this year's county spelling contest. She represented Winneshiek in the state competition at Des Moines.

The graduates from DeSales this year were: Dorothy Klein, Rosella Holtey, Helen Eimers, Elizabeth Powers, Jerome Bohr and Dorothy Cole.

The students receiving diplomas from O.H.S. were; Bertha Geskin, Georgia Limbeck, Blanche Rosa, Viola Peck, Adolpha Gunderson, Selma Tinderholt, Norman Lee, Arnold Larson, Reuben Rogness and Harold Holien.

Blanche Rosa, Robert Allen, Cyril Geskin, Harold Holien and Billie Brown, all winners of scholastic competition at Oelwein, represented the N. E. Iowa District in state academic examinations at Des Moines.

The only change in the faculty this year was the addition of Rachel Elmer as the teacher in the primary room.

Wm. Scholz was awarded six firsts and four seconds for his outstanding exhibit of gladiolus at the Iowa State Fair.

The Ossian Bakery was moved from the Rosa building to the Gunderson property adjacent to the Bee office. (Present site of the state liquor store.)

Editor Schmitz was defeated in his first try for a seat in the Iowa Assembly. He was successful in his run in 1932.

The city fathers purchased a tract of land from George Brockamp for use as a town dump. It was located north of the RR tracks just east of town. Consideration was listed as $400.

Anderson & Klein advertised many bargains this holiday season. Among them: men's suits—$20; overcoats—$15; ladies' hose--$l; and linen luncheon sets—$1.50

H. J. Etteldorf & Company offered: dress shirts—$2; men's oxfords—$4; ladies hose—$1; and footwear--$4.

Louis Bernatz priced his Christmas trees from 250 to 750 and apples at $1.75 a bushel.

The DeSales orchestra assisted a chorus composed of Mary Becvar, Marjory Bauman, Quintin Barthelme, Babe Eimers, Hermigild Dessel and Richard Klein in a musical broadcast over station KGCA. Miss Bernice Dessel was the accompanist.

The orchestra members were; Emerentina Barthelme, Gladys Becker, Ethel Scheidel, Evelyn Bodensteiner, Dorothy Ean, Florence Miller, Lyle Holder, Wilbur Peyer, Bertrand Dessel, Arnold Barthelme, Cletus Schneberger and Billy Juen.

The average market prices received by farmers this year were: hogs—$8.84; cattle--$7.71; sheep—$4.74; milk--$2.21; chickens—18¢; eggs--23¢; and wool--19¢
