An account of the municipal election for this year lists L. A. Meyer, E. Frank and G. G. Oyloe as the successful aspirants to council seats.

The old parish house at the Catholic Church was sold at auction to auctioneer Limbeck. The contract for a new residence was let to J. Redding for $5594.

John Collin's old National House, across from the Milwaukee depot, was sold to J. W. Banning. It will be known as the "Banning Hotel".

The graduates from O. H. S. this spring were: Harmon DeGraff, Laura Becker, Clarence Kenyon, Ella McManus and Albert Thompson.

Holbrook & Hanson have manufactured a hook and ladder truck for the Fire dept.The woodwork on this equipment is the product of our wagon-maker, Charles Emery. The city fathers have allotted $150 as payment for this new equipment; factory price would be at least $350.

Mr. Stamp offered free delivery of these items in his new delivery wagon driven by Holver Hauge.

The council decided by a vote of 3 to 2 to lay two concrete street crossings. Likely these were the first cement cross walks in town.

Evidently, the community's residents had an immense thirst during the July, 1902 to July, 1903, period. The Bee lists these figures: barley sold from this area—1,940,000 lbs.; beer returned —45 carloads, or about a barrel per capita.

A bachelor girls dance was presented at the opera house with these hostesses: Stella Blanchaine, Zoe Cornell, Barbara Malloy, Lela McWade and Mabel Mills.

There were fifty invited couples in attendance.

The first recorded run-away caused by a motor vehicle occurred this year.

Eber DeCou's team broke free from the hitching posts in front of Ed Stamp's store, when frightened by an automobile driven by a Cresco resident. The DeCou rig was demolished and his horses seriously injured.

The Women's Christian Temperance Union of the 23rd district, state of Iowa, held their annual convention at the Ossian M. E. Church this year. Mrs. Mattie Carter served as chairman of this three day meeting. The convention was addressed by Father Lechtenberg, in behalf of the churches; Prof. Russell for the school; T. F. Schmitz, as representative of the press; and Mr. Hall, giving the views of the businessmen. Nearly 100 children, under the supervision of Mrs. Ferris, sang a song of welcome to the visiting W. C. T. U. members.
