The corporate limits of Ossian were extended by a referendum held at the 1901 municipal election. The vote was 68 yes; 16 no. Ed Reum and J. B. Wiltgen were selected as new councilmen and T. F. Schmitz became the town assessor.

F. W. Dessel reported receiving 14 carloads of farm machinery in the past three months. He donated a binder to the Catholic Church to be used as a prize in a fund raising raffle. The proceeds were to be applied to the purchase of a new pipe organ.

"Sugar-foot" Oxley, "Wall-street" Spillman., "Blue-rocks" Burton, Ralph Carter and Otto Gleisner, all crack shots, were contestants in shooting match. Although Otto's rifle is one of those "tobacco-tag" guns valued at $4, he defeated his opponents with their $60 shooting irons.

John Wolfe, one of Ossian's harnessmakers, will build a new brick building just west of the opera house. E. Stamp's new store will also be of brick construction and will be built by Anton Zwack. (present Gardner tavern)

Long &    Owens    have    built a    steel windmill on their livery barn to keep their 15 barrel water tank filled.(This livery barn was razed in 1918. It was built by Dave Rosa in 1873 and was located south of the Becker Hardware Store. It faced the south   Lydia    street hill,    long known as    "Livery Hill" and a favorite sleighing area for generations of Ossian's youth.)
