Frank Figge carries a full line of general merchandise, is a genial gentleman and enjoys a good trade.

Peyer & Meyer, the junior being well known in Decorah, have a good location, a good stock and command a good trade.

T. A. Lamm, brother of Joe Lamm, is one of the principal merchants of the town. His stock is ample and full, and he reports a good trade during the past year.

Schoonmaker & Knudtson also carry a complete stock of goods; and they were in accord with the rest of the merchants in reporting a good business.

G. H. Langbein, an old time friend of the Republican, is the harness maker of Ossian. He is a good workman and a busy man. Besides a full line of harness and saddlery hardware he carries a good line of boots, shoes, trunks, valises, etc.

The hardware, stove and tinware trade is cared for by three firms. Ole Thompson, who first began his mercantile career with Elsworth & Landers of Decorah, has a store well stocked, and is agent for the celebrated Glidden barbed wire, and he reports a good trade. During the past year, he has built a comfortable residence.

Sawyer & McWillians, on the opposite side of the street, are prospering in the trade. They carry a fine line of goods and being old settlers and thoroughly identified with the interests of the town enjoy a good trade.

J. Becker carries a good line of goods.

Theo. Fleischer is the sole furniture dealer; his stock is very creditable.

The farm implement business is controlled by two firms: R. N. Sawyer has a large warehouse well filled and is agent for some of the best machinery sold in this area.

F. W. Dessel is also agent for several of the standard makes of goods and enjoys a good trade.

It takes four dealers to take care of this town's business in grain and stock:

E. Schoonmaker, we could not see. When the business is active, he is like the Irishman's flea, "all over at once and nowhere to be found." He is a large shipper and inclined to be aggressive. Not content with the country naturally tributary to Ossian, he occasionally skips over into Decorah's domain and plants a small thorn in the sales of the buyers in this town.

R. W. Durand represents the interests of Bassett, Hunting & Go. of McGregor.

D.    Weitgenant buys for Gilchrist & Company of that city.

A. J. Knudsvig buys for his own account.

Ossian has three hotels to take care of the wanderers. At the Ossian House,

J. H. Keller has succeeded O. M. Harris.

The National Blouse is run by John Collins, an old timer in this place.

The Commercial Hotel is rim by Larkin Green or "Monona Bill," we can't say which, but we can say the Commercial House is well kept, sets a good table and is clean in every respect. (Monona Bill was Green's race horse.)

The Ossian Creamery, owned by C. Williams, is one of the enterprises that is a credit to the town. It has a capacity of 2500 pounds per day when run at full capacity, and the quality of the butter made has established a favorable reputation in the eastern markets.

E.    J. Horron represents the C. M. & St. P. railroad company.

J. W. Laughlin is located at the depot of the B. CR & N. road.

Franz Frantzen is the proprietor of the only exclusive fancy grocery store and restaurant.

Meyer & Carter are the bankers. The Ossian Bank is well fitted up; has a large vault, as large as any in the county, a burglar proof safe, and is possessed of ample means for their business. They have the respect and confidence of the community and are both pleasant gentlemen to meet. Mr. Meyer who does the principal part of the banking work, told us that they recently paid out over $10,000 to farmers for our Decorah buyers, Wilson & Reeves. M. J. Carter is probably the most public man in Ossian. He looks after the legal questions of the town, attends to the banking business when Mr. Meyer is engaged, is Justice
