Holdt nar ved Decorah, in the Pines
 den 2den Oftober 1895.
Pursuant to notice given, the pioneer Norwegian settlers of this county gathered at “the pines" on the 2d inst. to the number of 150 to 200, and it is needless to say they had a good time. It was a re-union indeed. An address of welcome was delivered by Rev. A. Jacobson in which the purposes of the gathering were duly and eloquently set forth. Dinner followed, and it goes without saying it wasn’t like what such a picnic would have been thirty-five or forty years ago. But we very much doubt if it was enjoyed any more heartily than were the dinners of “ye olden time” when appetites were newer and keener. An hour or two was spent in social intercourse, and then a business session was held. The organization was perfected by the election of A. Jacobsen, president, and Iver Larsen, secretary. The date of next meeting was discussed, and it was finally agreed to meet again on the 17th of May, 1896, at “the pines” if the weather favors. If unfavorable the officers are directed to engage some suitable public hall in Decorah. There was also talk of engaging Hon. Rasmus B. Anderson to deliver an appropriate address. Meeting to commence at 11 o’clock.

“Who is a Pioneer” was settled by making all eligible to active membership who came in or prior to 1857; but all who came later are to be invited to participate in the meetings. The young people especially are desired to participate.

A partial list of those present was taken. It includes the following:—
