had their now famous visitor, Antonin Dvorak. Mr. Dvorak wanted to take part in a local wedding and attended Matt and Rose’s wedding. He also got caught up in the music at the dance and joined the musicians by playing with them. Jim and John remained on the homestead. John took over the farm and Jim who was nearly blind since an early age because of smallpox helped as he could.

The farm grew to 160 acres. On 15 Jun 1855, Mathias had also purchased land from the U.S. Government in Dubuque Co, IA. Mathias died on 26 Apr 1903, his wife Katherine died 5 Jan 1914. Both are buried at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Spillville, IA.

The English pronunciation of Vojik is Voyek-thus the name took on the present spelling.
