scendents left the area for Wisconsin and the Dakotas. The next child was Margit born in 1867. She married Lars Lane an immigrant from Frosta in North Trondeiag and their descendents are still living on the original Thorson homestead and still speak the Norwegian language in their home. Thor was the next born. Nels and Thor married sisters, Anna and Fianna Sylling. The third son Andrew married Emma Rosten. Thor and Andrew’s descendents mostly settled in and around Spring Grove, MN. The youngest daughter, Svnnova. or Susie, married Severt Olson. Alfred the last born married Emma Hagen. Their children grew up in and around Winneshiek and Allamakee Counties.

Andrew Thorson and Ingeborg Kjome Thorson, Nels, Thor and Margit.

Ingeborg died in childbirth on 8 Feb 1887. She and the child are buried together at Big Canoe. Margit took over the responsibility of raising her younger brothers and sisters. Andrew eventually moved to Decorah with his three youngest daughters and Margit and her husband, Lars Lane, took over the farm.

Andrew died in Decorah on 7 Oct 1905, but he is buried at Highland Lutheran Cemetery in Highland Twp.

Thorson, Charles and Bona (Mork)

Charles Thorson was born at Postvillle, IA the son of Alphie H. and Myrtle (Lien) Thorson. Charles was baptized at the East Clermont Lutheran Church, Clayton Co. IA. He graduated from Clermont High School. Charles married Bona Mork 9 Feb 1958 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Bona Mork was born at Luana, IA the daughter of Enock and Selma (Gjefle) Mork. Bona graduated from Postville High School. Charles and Bona owned and operated a farm 2 miles east of Clermont for 25 years before moving to Castalia in 1983. At this time Bona became the postmaster of the Castalia Post Office.

Charles and Bona are the parents of 3 daughters. They were all born at West Union, IA Fayette Co. They attended and graduated from Valley High between Clermont and Elgin.

Chervl Ann attended Cosmetology School at NITI (now NICC) in Calmar, IA. She married Roger Reed on 12 Nov 1977 at East Clermont Lutheran Church. Roger and Cheryl live in Decorah where Cheryl is a beautician and Roger is employed at Kephart's, They have 3 children: Erica; Nathan and Hillary. Lynn Annette graduated from U.N. I. at Cedar Falls, IA. She married John Armstrong 14 Jul 1990 at Trinity Lutheran, Galesburg, IL. John and Lynn live in Galesburg where Lynn is employed at Regional Facilities Management Services. John is manager at Jiffy Lube. They have a son Derek. Valerie Lee graduated from Spencer, Iowa Business College. She lives in Marion, IA. She is Office Manager at Rathje’s Construction Co.

Tiernan, Giles and LaVerne (Thompson)

Giles Regan Tiernan was born 31 Jan 1918 at Boonville, IA to James Thomas (1879-1945) and Kathryn (Waldron) Tiernan. Kathryn was born 1876 and died 1944. James Thomas Tiernan was born to John and Ellen (Reagen) Tiernan who settled in the Irish Settlement near Cumming, IA. John Tiernan was the son of John and Ellen (Fitzpatrick) Tiernan of Co. Clare, Ireland. Giles’ brothers and sisters were; Rose Ellen (b.1910 - d.1936) never married; John Waldron (b. 1911) married Margaret Holloway and had 6 children; James Thomas (b. 1913) married Maria Kohle; Catherine (b. 14 Nov 1916 - d. 28 Jul 1975) never married and Francis Xavier (b.1920 -d.1986).

Giles attended a rural school near Winterset, IA. He stayed home from high school in order to help his father on the farm and also worked on neighboring farms. Eventually he began working for the Herman M. Brown Equipment Co. in Des Moines, IA and then became a sales representative for the company in northeast IA.

On 9 Jan 1954 Giles married LaVerne Henrietta Thompson at St. Patrick's Church at the Irish Settlement, Cumming, IA. LaVerne was born to Ole M.
