old. He stayed on the farm and worked for his mother, then bought it in 1961. The 160 acre farm has been in the Neuzil name for 120 years to date. Cyril quit farming in 1963 and has been renting out the crop land ever since.

Over the years Cyril worked with road construction, at the Oliver tractor plant in Charles City for 17 years and since 1983 has been working at Camcar Textron (screw factory) in Decorah. Cyril still has a small herd of beef cattle on his farm. He enjoys reading the daily paper, fishing, playing cards and watching the daily news on television.

On 13 Oct 1959 Cyril married Rebecca Cecil Pecinovsky at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. Rebecca’s parents were William G. and Helen (Stika) Pecinovsky who farmed 6 miles north of Protivin in Howard Co., New Oregon Twp., Section 24. Rebecca was born 2 Jun 1940 in Cresco, attended country school one mile south of her home and Holy Trinity grade school. She graduated from Rudolphinum High School in Protivin where she was a cheerleader and acquired the nickname ’’Becky.’’ She has 2 younger brothers, Dennis and Glenn. Becky started working outside the home in 1979 and presently works at Turkey Valley Community School in Jack-son Junction, IA as a Technology Associate. Becky enjoys photography and does free lance work, mostly taking family and wedding pictures. She also enjoys doing genealogy, working on her computer and going dancing.

Cyril and Becky are both of Czech ancestry and are parents of 5 children: Catherine, Susan, Steven, Lorna and Craig. Catherine Mary married Dennis Hugo Dietzenbach, son of Hugo and Irene Dietzenbach of Waucoma, on 3 Oct 1981. Cathy is a school board secretary at Turkey Valley Community School in Jackson Junction. Dennis farms 2 miles south of Waucoma where the family lives. They have 2 children: Keith and Karla. Susan Mary married Peter Jerome Schmitt 18 Sep 1982. Peter is the son of John E. and Rita (Kuhn) Schmitt. They are the parents of 4 sons: Andrew, William, Benjamin and John T The family dairy and crop farm 4 miles southwest of Ft. Atkinson. (See Peter & Susan Schmitt story) Steven John graduated from high school in 1981 and a week later left for basic training in the United States Air Force. After basic he received 8 months training as an Electronic Computer System Specialist. Steven also received specialized training in communications systems and spent 10 years in the Air Force, one of which was in Korea. Steven now lives in Bradenton, FL and works at High-Stat doing electronic maintenance. He enjoys going fishing and boating and is a self taught carpenter. Lorna Ann attended Rochester Area Vocational Technical Institute in Rochester, MN. She graduated in Aug 1984 from the basic food preparation program. Lorna lives in Rochester and works at Motel 6 and Norwest Bank as a maid. Craig William married Sara Kuboushek, daughter of Allan and Judy Kuboushek, 27 May 1995. Craig and Sara both graduated from Iowa State University in Ames. Craig earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications and a Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences. Sara has a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Degree. Craig is presently a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force and is stationed at Charleston Air Force Base in SC where they are now making their home.

The Daniel W. Neuzil family Thanksgiving 1994 Dan and Ethel, 9 children,

10 grandchildren and 3 inlaws.

Daniel William Neuzil was born near Ft. Atkinson, IA, the 3rd of 4 children of Frank A. and Julia A. (Wandas) Neuzil. His siblings are: Bernard of Ft. Atkinson, Julia Bales of Cedar Rapids and Norbert of Decorah. His father Frank died in Feb 1983. His mother Julia resides at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah and is 99 years old. Dan attended St. John’s Parochial School and graduated from Ft. Atkinson High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 and saw active duty in Korea. On 30 Dec 1953 Dan married Ethel E. Blong in St. Lucas, IA. Ethel is the daughter of John B. and Elizabeth A. (Setter) Blong. Her siblings include Marcella Nicolaus of Shell Rock, IA, Helen Rothmeyer of Rockford, IL, Donald of St. Lucas, Vera Wiest of Ft. Atkinson, John of Milwaukee, Wl, half-brother Herbert of St. Lucas and Art, deceased. Her father John died Mar 1959 and her mother Elizabeth died Dec 1991.

The first 5 children of Daniel and Ethel born in New Hampton and the last 4 born in Decorah are: Steven Francis, Teresa Ann, Jean Ann, Lori Ann, Debra Ann, Joseph John, Daniel Joseph, Kay Elizabeth and James Alan.

Dan worked as a rural mail carrier and also in partnership with his brother Bernard in their business “Neuzil Electric.” In 1972 Dan started working at Area One in Calmar as a heating and air conditioning custodian. He retired from Area One (now NIOC) in 1992 and has been keeping busy with electrical odd jobs, community service, craft projects, yard work and being Mr. Fix-It for his children and 10 grandchildren. He enjoys playing cards, horseshoes and driving his Harley Davidson.
