worked for the County Superintendent of Schools and Keystone Area Education Agency as a secretary for a total of 34 years. Jim and Phyllis took early retirement 1 Jul 1995. They are members of the United Methodist Church in Decorah where Phyllis was baptized, confirmed and married. Both daughters were baptized and confirmed there. Jim was a member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church where he was confirmed.

Jim and Phyllis moved to their home at 1108 Locust Road in Jun 1965 and still reside there at this date.

August Anthony Neuzil was born 12 Aug 1924 to John F. and Eleanora (Novak) Neuzil on a farm 3 1/2 miles southwest of Spillville. August "Gusty" was the second oldest and had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. On 13 Oct 1952 he married Dorothy Ondrashek, daughter of William and Stella (Pavlovec) Ondrashek, at St. John's Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson, IA. They farmed in the area until 1960 when they moved to Spillville and Gusty worked as a county road employee. Gusty passed away 30 Nov 1978 as a result of a heart attack and is buried in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church Cemetery. Dorothy still lives in Spillville and works at the Spillville locker plant.

August and Dorothy had 3 children: Elaine, Karen Kay and Larry Lynn. EJaine. was born 14 Apr 1954 and died 4 Oct 1954. Karen graduated from South Winneshiek High School. On 7 Jun 1975 Karen married Dennis Franzen, son of Victor and Margaret Franzen of West Union, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. They have one son Leslie Jay. Larry  graduated from South Winneshiek High School and attended Northeast Iowa Technical Institute (NITI) in Calmar, IA. He graduated in Accounting II from NITI in 1977 and is presently employed at the Spillville Bank. On 9 May 1992 Larry married Jeanne Schmitt at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson. Jeanne is the daughter of John E. and Rita (Kuhn) Schmitt. Larry and Jeanne are presently building a new home one mile north of Spillville.

Neuzil, Bernard and Marie (Rilling)

Bernard Frances Neuzil was born in his family home in Ft. Atkinson, IA 20 Jul 1921 to Frank A. and Julia (Wandas) Neuzil. Frank was born 2 Dec 1894 and Julia was born 19 Dec 1896. Bernard's brothers and sister are: Julia Bales, Daniel and Norbert.

Marie Mathilda Rilling is the daughter of John and Celia (Kuhn) Rilling. John was born 21 Feb 1883 at Festina and Celia was born 13 Mar 1894 near Spillville, IA. They were married 14 Jun 1915 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Spillville. Marie had one brother J. Renald who died in 1976.

Bernard and Marie were married 1 Jul 1957 at St. John's Church in Ft. Atkinson. They made their home one-half mile north of Ft. Atkinson and have 4 children: Donald, Linda, Marilyn and Sandra, all born at Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah.

Donald Bernard  married Crystal Chyle 18 May 1991 and resides in Ridgeway, IA. Donald is employed at Camcar Textron in Decorah and Crystal is employed at Donaldsons in Cresco. Donald enjoys boating, hunting, camping and fishing. Linda Marie lives in Ft. Atkinson and works at DECO Products Co. in Decorah. In her spare time she enjoys knitting, crocheting, counted cross-stitch and reading. Marilyn Jane married Danny Holthaus 11 Jun 1988 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson. They have a son Andrew Jason. Marilyn works at DECO Products Co. in Decorah and Danny farms. They reside north of Decorah. They enjoy horseback riding, bowling and softball. Sandra Ann married Jerald Andera 28 Aug 1993. They live west of Spillville and have a son Brian Matthew who was born 3 Sep 1994. Jerald farms, operates a sawmill and wood planing and sharpening business. He also repairs clocks. Jerald enjoys hunting and Sandra plays in the community band. Both enjoy fishing and furniture building in their spare time.
