moved to Sarles, ND where he died 26 May 1930 at age 75. Olive died there 5 Jul 1932 at age 76. They were members of the Lutheran Church and are buried in the Sarles Cemetery.

Their children were: Clara Henritte (b. 1876 in Iowa) married Thron 0. Hoyme in 1893. They farmed near Hendrum, MN. They had five children: Hattie, Edna, Gladys, Milo and Viola. Edaar Lawrence (b. 1877 in Iowa) married Maria Elsie Huseby in 1898. They farmed near Ada, MN. They had two children: Vernon and Grace. Edith Louise (b. 1877 in Iowa) married Karl Julius Hoyme in 1895. They lived in Norman Co, MN. He died there in 1908. They were the parents of four children: Ernest, Florence, Clarence and Julia. Edith’s second marriage was to Gilbert G. Smerer in 1910 at Cando, ND. They had four children: Sylvia, Goldie, Pearl and Edgar. Bertha G. (b. 1880 in Iowa) married Christian 0. Estenson in 1901 in Ada. They moved to Sarles in 1906 and farmed there until 1916 when they moved to Montana. In 1919 they returned to Sarles and the farm. They stayed there until 1937 when they moved to Oregon with their two youngest children. They had nine children: Floyd, Alma, Bennie, Herman, Clayton, Clarence, Lester, Evelyn and Wallace. Lillie Maud (b. 1883 in Iowa) married James Owen Bell in 1903. They lived at Eagle River, Ontario, Canada. They had four children: Roy, Helen, George and lla. Lizzie Mabel (b. 1883 in Iowa) married John J. Stensrud in 1901. They lived at Mattock, ND. They had seven children: Clifford, Ruby, Horace, Roscoe, Robert, Jesse and Goldie. Gertrude Ethel (b. 1889 in Minnesota) married Arthur Olson in 1909. They lived in North Dakota. They had two children: Orville and Vera. Arthur Olson died in 1931 and is buried in Colgan, ND. After Arthur’s death, Gertrude married Almond Ancel Rich in 1940. They lived at Silverton, OR.

Helge Myran was born 7 Jul 1858 in Madison Twp., Winneshiek Co., IA. to Ole and Ingri Myran. In 1880 he went to Dakota Territory to homestead and built a one-room shanty in Traill Co. near what was to become Hatton, ND. There were very few trees so his father sent him cuttings from willow and cottonwood trees, trimmed during the winter and shipped by train. On 26 Feb 1883 Helge married a neighbor girl Kjersti Olsen who was born 16 Feb 1866 at Ramstad farm in Sigdal, Norway. She emigrated in 1869 with her parents Even and Marte Olsen who lived in Madison Twp. before settling in Dakota Territory.

Helge and Kjersti had 3 children in Dakota Territory: Olaf (b. 6 Jun 1884); Maria (b. 2 Dec 1887); and Inga (b. 23 Dec 1889). The summer of 1886 was hot and dry. The next winter was very cold and snowy. The summer of 1887 was hot and dry again; 1889 was the driest of all. In 1891 the family moved back to IA so Helge could take over the family farm. They had 3 more children: Elias (b. 25 Sep 1891); Henry (b. 17 Jul 1893); and Christina (b. 31 Jul 1895). Kjersti died 25 Jan 1926 and Helge died 21 Jan 1936. They are buried in Madison Lutheran Cemetery.

Their 3 sons worked the farm and also operated a saw mill, supplying lumber for their neighbors. Olaf attended Breckenridge Institute. He never married. He lived with and worked for various relatives in IA, MN and ND. In 1937 he went on a trip to the Holy Land and to Norway, He died 12 Jul 1955 and is buried in Madison Cemetery.

Maria took dressmaking classes and sewed for people. She married Even Berg, born 21 Nov 1884 in Valdres, Norway. They lived in IA, MN and ND. They had 5 children: Julia, Henry, Evelyn, Mabel and Norma. Even died 26 Nov 1950 and Maria died 4 Jul 1980 in ND.

Inga attended Breckenridge Institute and was a seamstress. On 26 Jun 1919 she married Henry Ansten (b. 3 Jan 1889). They lived on the Ansten farm in Madison Twp. The Anstens had 5 children: Malene, Telford, Hazel, Rosella and Gladys. Henry died 21 Oct 1966 and Inga died 21 Jun 1973. They are buried in Madison Cemetery.

Elias attended Valders Business College. He married Agnes Sunde, born 23 Sep 1905 in Madison Twp. They lived in Oregon a few years, then moved back to the home farm. They had 3 children: Arnold, Francis and Mae. Elias died 2 Aug 1988 and is buried in Madison Cemetery. Agnes is living at the Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN.

Henry lived on the home farm until he married Lydia French and moved to Decorah. Henry died 6 Nov 1966 and Lydia died 7 Mar 1972. They are buried in Madison Cemetery.

Christina worked at home until she married Clarence Borseth (b. 17 Oct 1894 in Springfield Twp.). They lived on the farm adjacent to her brother’s farm. They had 5 children: Martha, Edith, Cecil, Robert and Clair. Clarence died 4 Apr 1974 and is buried in Madison Cemetery, Christina resides in the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. She celebrated her 100th birthday 31 Jul 1995.
