Instead of attending Luther College as his brothers and sisters had done, Erik opted to complete a 2 year course in auto mechanics at the area technical school in Ft. Dodge, IA. For 2 years he was employed at Chadwick Chevrolet in Laurens, IA, a town near Rembrandt. Erik purchased a Rembrandt business consisting of a combination repair service and gasoline station. Selling gas was dropped and he was able to buy a small motors business to add to his other repair business.

Erik married Mariellen Olson 24 Aug 1991 and has a stepdaughter.

Erik enjoys golf and other sports and participates in church and community affairs. Fie has a dry sense of humor and an understanding of people which helps him in his business dealings.

Mosbo, Rolf and Valerie (Haraldson)

(Esther Mosbo)

Rolf Erik Mosbo was born in Sioux Rapids, IA to Edward Johannes and Esther (Thorson) Mosbo. Rolf was the third child in his family to graduate from Rembrandt High School, Rembrandt, IA and to attend Luther College. Decorah, IA. Fie graduated from Luther in 1971 with an interdisciplinary degree in social science. His degree in social science and graduate work in linguistics at the University of Iowa in Iowa City held no particular support for the life of a farmer and cattle breeder which Rolf chose to pursue.

Two trips to Scandinavia were part of Rolf’s college work. He studied Norwegian at Oslo University in Oslo, Norway the summer of 1969 and worked at the Storvik's shipyard in Kristiansund, Norway that fall making his home with cousin Karen Storvik. Her home was situated just above the plant. Rolf probed available sources of information for history of the Mosbo family at Okensdal, Norway. Rolf married Valeria Haraldson 17 Mar 1973. Rolf prevailed upon his parents to make a trip to Norway. Rolf and Valerie, his parents Ed and Esther, Rolf’s brother Paul and his wife Vivian had an unforgettable trip to Norway in 1974 with Rolf as the guide.

Working with his father on the farm prepared Rolf for a farm corporation job. Later he farmed jointly with his father which prepared him for taking over renting the home place when Edward and Esther retired to Decorah, Rolf farmed with his cousin, Richard Mosbo, just as Ed and his brother Ingolf had worked together for so many years. Rolf and Richard purchased two pieces of land which their fathers had rented for a long time. Then farmed 1100 acres. Rolf’s particular interest is the purebred herd of French Limousin cattle he has developed. He is president of the Iowa Limousin Association. Rolf believes firmly in the real merit of this breed and in building a name for his own animals. Rolf’s cousin Richard left farming so Rolf had to sell his herd to be able to continue farming, now by himself.

Valeria is employed full-time at First National Bank in Rembrandt. Both she and Rolf are active in church and community affairs. They enjoy golfing which they do well. Rolf and Valerie have 2 children: Stefanie and Justin. Stefanie was born in Storm Lake, IA. On Sep 1995 she enrolled at Iowa State University in business. Justin Kell was born in Storm Lake. Since he was very small he has been an avid Luther College fan. No doubt this is where he will attend college.
