Lyle married Sena Helen Baker 29 Aug 1928. Sena was born 7 Feb 1905, the oldest of 3 children born to Edward F. and Clara Baker. Her brothers were Charles and Lloyd. Charles lived in the Cresco and Ridgeway area most of his life and was married to Florence Harvey. They had 3 children: Charlene, Joyce and Donald. Lloyd married Gladys Yarwood and they had 5 children: Stanley, Barbara, Dorothy, Kenneth and Cathryn who goes by “Kitty Jo." Lloyd, Charles and their wives have all passed away.

Lyle and Sena lost their first 2 daughters, one miscarried and the other was stillborn. Ellen Marie  and Marilyn Edna. They lived in this area all their lives with the exception of one or two years in Hannibal, Wl.

Ellen married George J. Waters from Waukon, IA 28 Apr 1948 and had 9 children: Michael, Phyllis, Helen, Pat, Kathaleen, Dennis, Timothy, Carmel, and Robert. Michael George at age 21 was killed in a car accident in 1971 after he returned from serving in Viet Nam. Phyllis Ann  married Randy Murphy and has one son Nick and is a V.P in a bank. Helen Veronica married Dave Patten and has 3 children: Jolee, Tracy and David. Jolee married Troy Coberly and has a daughter Alexis. Tracy is in college. David is a senior in high school. Pat married Cindy Perry and has one daughter Laura. Pat made a career of the Service. Kathaleen married Lynn Braun and has 3 sons: Shane, Clint and Kyle. Dennis is single and lives in Minneapolis. Timothy married Colleen Barz and has 2 step-sons. Carmel married John Dickerson and has 2 boys: Trenton and Ashley and a little girl Taylor. Robert married Sue Schlagel. George J.

(known as “Stub”) had by-pass surgery and died a few years later of cancer 31 Oct 1990.

Marilyn married Merlyn Helland. They have farmed in HesperTwp. 40 years and have 5 children: Steven, Diane, Cindy, Lisa and Mikkel. Steven married Deanna Zollman and has a daughter Stephanie. He is a computer consultant in Phoenix. Diane married Gene Tesmer who is making a career of the Air Force and is stationed in Okinawa. They adopted 2 girls, Danielle and Chelsea. Cindy married Phil Nagel and has 3 children: Nathan, Natalie and Aaron. Lisa married Donald Wilkins and has 3 children: Christina, Daryl and Rachel. Mikkel is single and farms with his parents.

Lyle is now a resident of Green Lea Manor in Mabel. He likes to reminisce about old times and how they farmed-about the joys they had as well as the heartaches. Lyle was born on the farm presently occupied by George Snell. He remembers carrying a little pail of water to the chickens when he fell down and knocked out some teeth! He was about 4 years old. His father was an assessor in Burr Oak Twp. for 12 years.

Lyle and Sena attended Hesper Friends Church. About 1940 they were living near Locust and Sena walked to Locust to attend a confirmation class at St. John's Lutheran Church. Lyle was a Farm Bureau member for years. At one time he sold Moorman’s Feed. He loves to be with other people and visit. Loss of hearing makes it much more difficult and he really misses those good visits. He suffers from Parkinson’s Disease along with numerous other problems

Matter, John and Suzanne (Noecker)

Suzanne Louise Noecker was born at the Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah, IA to Milo G. and Ida M. (Quandahl) Noecker, their third child and the first to be born in a hospital. Milo and Ida were living in a house they owned in Burr Oak, IA. Milo, Ida, Margo, Michael and Suzanne soon moved to Hugo Noecker’s farm (Milo's father) in 1947. In the spring of 1949 Milo and Ida purchased their own farm in Canoe Twp. and moved with their growing family. Joining the family in Dec 1949 were twins, Billie and Bettie. Suzanne lived with her family on that farm until 1963.

Suzanne went through her first 8 years of school at rural one-room schoolhouses in Canoe Twp. In 1960 she started ninth grade at Decorah High School where she graduated in 1964. In the spring of 1963 Suzanne met John Matter, a fellow classmate, at the junior class picnic. They started dating that summer and after 6 years were married. During those 6 years John graduated from Luther College in Decorah and joined the United States Army. Suzanne started work at the Winneshiek Mutual Insurance Ass'n. in Decorah her senior year of high school and worked there until her marriage to John 4 May 1969. The first year of their marriage was spent in San Antonio, TX while John was finishing his second and last year in the army.
