rector on the executive board of the Iowa Ass’n. of County Supervisors for 4 years and was their state treasurer for one year.

Walter's interest in government came from his father (Charley Langland was a State Representative in Iowa for several terms) and his involvement in Farm Bureau activities. He was elected Twp. Farm Bureau Director in 1957 and in 1959 was elected Winneshiek Co. Farm Bureau President, a position he held for 3 years. He served 16 years (1964 - 1978) on the board of Northeast Farm Service Co., a farm supply company. He was also a Twp. Republican Committee person for several years before he ran for the office of State Representative for Winneshiek Co. He served 2 terms (1967 - 1970) in the Iowa House of Representatives. In 1990 he began serving as a Trustee on the Board of the Winneshiek Co. Memorial Hospital.

The Langland’s son, Steve, lives on the farm and farms with his father. Their daughter, Karen, lives in Clear Lake, IA with her husband, Mark Harthan and their two sons, Benjamin and Jacob.

During his life, Walter was active in his home church, Highland Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, secretary and president of the congregation, active in its brotherhood and choir. He also sang in a barbershop quartet and did solo work in the congregation.

Walter has had membership in many charitable and civic organizations such as the Porter House Museum, Association for Retarded Citizens, Winneshiek Co. Historical Society, Vesterheim Museum, Decorah Chamber of Commerce, Winneshiek Co. Memorial Hospital Foundation, Decorah Rotary Club, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, state and national Republican parties and was a fund raiser for the Decorah Library.

Helen Frances Huber was born, as were her father and her grandfather, at the Huber farm in Washington Twp., Winneshiek Co., IA 21 Jun 1941. She was the seventh daughter of Zeno Phillip and Mildred Theresa (Riehle) Huber. Her mother, Mildred, was born in Ft. Atkinson, IA.

Helen attended St. John Nepomucene Catholic School for 8 years, Ft. Atkinson High School for 3 years, and Calmar High School for her Senior year. Helen’s brothers and sisters are Zeno W., Marie C. Stafford, Thelma R. Lair, Robert, Coletta M. Ameling, Richard, Rose I. Stammeyer, Grace I. Pavlovec, James A., and Ruth V. Pavlovec.

Helen met Edwin Anton Langreck on 4 Jul 1962. He was born in Fayette Co on a farm 3 1/2 miles southeast of St. Lucas. He is the sixth child of Anton and Anna (Meinert) Langreck. His brothers and sisters are Antonia, Alvin, Ida Krivacheck, Joann Brincks, Anthony, David and Duane.

Helen and Edwin were married 28 Dec 1964 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. They are the parents of 5 children: Darryl, Kenneth, Kathleen, Julie and Diane. All the children were born at the Decorah Hospital. They went to St. Johns, St. Lukes School for 6 years, then Turkey Valley for junior and senior high school.

Darryl Raymond spent 4 years in the Army and then 2 1/2 years at the University of Iowa. He married Lisa Gail Vseteska 2 May 1992 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cresco, IA. They live in Spillville, IA. They have a daughter Kendra Annatasia. Darryl is employed at Gemini, Decorah. His hobby is carpentering. His wife, Lisa, is employed at Walmart in Decorah. Kenneth Anton worked as a carpenter for 3 years. He is now employed at Mid West Irrigation. His hobby is car racing. Kathleen Patricia attended Ellsworth College 2 years. She has a degree in Equine Management. She is employed at Gemini in Decorah. Her hobby is riding horses. Julie Ann  attended the University of Northern Iowa for 4 1/2 years and graduated with an accounting degree. She worked for H&R Block and now is employed at Gemini, Decorah. Diane Frances Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids for a year for architectural drafting and is now employed at Allied Glass in Cedar Rapids, IA. Diane married Ryan Patrick Sheridan 17 Sep 1994 at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Church. Ryan is in his fourth year at Mount Mercy College.

Helen and Edwin live on a small acreage a half mile east of Ft. Atkinson along the Roger Creek and the Turkey River. Edwin works at Calmar Mfg. Co* He is a carpenter and has worked there since 7 Dec 1964. Helen is now employed at Graphics Inc. in Calmar, IA.

Edwin's hobby is restoring old tractors. Helen likes quilting and working in her flower garden.

Langreck, John and Mary (Meiners)

My great-grandfather, Herman Henry Langreck was born 22 Feb 1820 in Lemke, Germany. There he married Anna Maria Neidecker (b. 22 Jan 1819). They had 4 children: John Henry (b. 26 Mar 1847), Mary Theresa (b. 18 Sep 1850) and twins Anna Mary and John (b. 18 May 1857).
