Gale and Kathy are the parents of three children: Betsy, Eric and Samantha  - all were born in Decorah.

Gale and Kathy and family are active members of Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, IA, where Gale has served on the church council and Kathy is secretary. Their daughter, Betsy, was Winneshiek Co Little Miss Pig Tail in 1995. She is a member of the Bloomfield Busy Bees 4-H Club. Eric is a member of the Bloomfield Twp Junior Farmers 4-H Club. The children attend the Postville school.

Koenig, Harlen and Lorraine (Henning)

Harlen Koenig was born 29 Nov 1917 at Postville, IA in Allamakee Co. His parents were Fred and Alma (Schlie) Koenig. Their home was in Bloomfield Twp, Winneshiek Co. Harlen was christened at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. He attended the Oak Hill school near his home and graduated from the 8th grade. He learned farming at an early age. Fred and Alma were the parents of six boys: Harlen, Leonard, Verne, Milton, Loren and Earl.

On 8 Dec 1938, Harlen married Lorraine Henning at the St. Paul Lutheran Church parsonage in Postville. Lorraine was born 28 Feb 1920 near Waukon, IA. Her parents were Theodore and Emma (Grotegut) Henning. Their ancestors came from the Lippe-Detmold province of Germany and settled in Ludlow Twp. Theodore and Emma Henning were the parents of: Rueben, Lawrence (Larry), Lorraine, Irving, Calvin, Gertrude and Robert and Betty (twins).

Harlen and Lorraine first lived on a rented farm owned by the Blumhagen family in Bloomfield Twp. They lived on various farms in Winneshiek and Allamakee Co until in Feb 1952 when they bought the Paul Topel farm near Frankville. Harlen and Lorraine are the parents of 8 children. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Dec 1988. Harlen has farmed all his life. After their children had all married, Lorraine became a nurse's aid and worked for many years at the Good Samaritan Home in Postville.

Their children are: Shirley married Gerald Blakeslee. They live in Boscobel, Wl. They have two sons, Tom and Tim. Tom and Becky Blakeslee live in Vincennes, IN. Tom is employed by Hamilton Glass and Quality Control Co. Becky is a lawyer in Lawrence, IL. Tim their other son is employed as a school psychologist in the Iowa Falls School District. Gerald and Shirley are employed at Land’s End in Dodgeville, Wl.

Donald married Judy Anderson. They live in Wayne, NE. They are both employed by the Wayne School District. Don received the Huntel Golden Apple Award for teaching in 1994. He was also inducted into the Nebraska Wrestling Hall of Fame. He retired from football coaching and now is an official at football games. Judy is an elementary teacher. They have a son Kevin who married Teri Robins. They live in Wayne where Kevin is self employed with a crop consulting business. Teri is a graphic artist for the Wayne Herald. A daughter Karmin married Darin Barnes. They live in Grand Island, NE. She works as a speech-language pathologist for the Grand Island schools. Darin works at the Children's Home in Henderson, NE.

Luann  married Calvin Vacek. They live in Racine, Wl. Cal is employed by the Johnson Wax Co. Luann (Bea) is employed as a bookkeeper. Their daughter is a student at college in Milwaukee, Wl.

Duane married Norma Svendsen and lives near Postville. Norma is the daughter of Arthur (deceased) and Mary Svendsen of Castalia. Duane is self-employed as a milk hauler and trucker. Norma works at the Cindi’s Shanty restaurant in Gunder, IA. They have two children, Corey and Clay. Corey attends college at Upper Iowa University at Fayette, IA. Clay is a senior at Postville High School.

Douglas married Rhonda Feickert. They live in Frankville. Doug is employed by Wisconsin Central Railroad. Rhonda is employed at Northern Engraving, Waukon. Their children, Kari and Bryce attend school in Postville.

Bradley (b. 28 Aug 1958) married Sally Klimesh. They live in Fond du Lac, Wl where he is employed by Wisconsin Central Railroad as a bridge inspector. They have one son Blaine.

Peggy married Brian Keuning. They live near Postville. Brian is a Federal Meat Inspector and works at the Iowa Turkey Products plant in Postville. Peggy is employed as a teacher at the day care center in Postville. They have two children; Kelli and Lucas.

Lisa married Brian Snitker and they live near Frankville. Brian is employed by the Wisconsin Central Railroad. Lisa works at the Good Samaritan Home in Postville. Their children Jody, Nicholas and Ethan attend school in Postville.

Koenig, Jody and Donna (Roffman)

Jody Lynn Koenig was born in Decorah, IA. He is the son of Verne G. Koenig and Ardith Mae (Schultz) Koenig. He married Donna Roffman at Postville, IA 3 Aug 1980. Donna is the daughter of Robert James Roffman and Laura Mae (Tietz) Roffman. Donna was born in Postville.

Jody has been a musician since Junior High School. He has worked at KDEC radio in Decorah which his father co-owned as an announcer and engineer. In the summer of 1990, Jody, Donna and their family moved to Vancouver, B.C., Canada to attend a music/recording school for a few months. Just a month after they returned from Canada, their house in Decorah was destroyed by fire. No one was harmed and they rebuilt on the same location.

Jody currently works at Kephart’s Music Center in Decorah as a musical electronics technical troubleshooter. He has been a prolific songwriter for many years and has played with a number of musical groups in the area.

Donna currently works at Sunflower Child Care Center in Decorah. She has worked there for two years. She is active in the church. She has been a Sunday School
