Melvin died in 1904 of a ruptured blood vessel. Ann Eliza continued to make her home on the farm until her death 2 Oct 1932. Her son Allen lived with her. When Ann Eliza died, the land was divided into 2 parcels. The east portion went to her son Edward; the west portion to her son Allen. Edward called his portion “Maplewood”; Allen called his "Spring Valley Farm”.

Ann Eliza was actively involved in the maple sugar processing business until her death.

Both Melvin and Ann Eliza are buried in the Centennial Cemetery, Bloomfield Twp., Winneshiek Co.

Green, Roy and Evelyn (Haugen)

Roy Herbert Green was born 21 Oct 1916 in Decorah, IA, the son of Roy Emerson Green and Helen (Johnson) Green. His father was born Oct 1896 in Clarksville, IA and his mother was born 14 Oct 1899 in Highlandville, IA. Roy was an only child.

Roy married Evelyn Margery Haugen who was born in Decorah, the daughter of Nels and Ruby Haugen. Her father was born 5 Sep 1889 and her mother was born 18 Jun 1887, both in Decorah. Nels and Ruby were married in 1916 in Decorah. Evelyn has one brother, Robert Nathan Haugen, and one sister, Arlyne Haugen.

Roy and Evelyn Green

Roy and Evelyn were married 7 Jun 1940 at West Union, IA. They have three children: Richard, Dennis and Nancy, all born in Decorah. Richard never married. Dennis married Ruth Magellsen. They have three children: Catherine, Michelle and Michael. Nancy married John

Juve, son of Raymond and Hattie Juve. They have two children: Jody and Jill.

Roy and Evelyn are members of Decorah Lutheran Church. They belong to Silvercrest Country Club, Elks Club and the VFW.

Roy worked for the Decorah Theaters and Coca-Cola Bottling until 1960. Then he operated a Credit and Financial Business in Decorah for 15 years. Evelyn worked for J.C. Penney from 1956 until 1986 when she retired.

Roy made up some Decorah Home Town Movies from old movie film taken between 1938 and 1942 and has shown them on Telnet Cable TV eleven different times over an 8-years period. Roy served as Commander of the VFW in 1957 and as secretary-treasurer of Silvercrest Country Club for 11 years. Evelyn is busy with many different clubs and card club and church work. She loves to make afghans and doilies and give them away to her many, many friends. Roy retired in 1978 and Evelyn retired in 1986.

Shirley Ruth Erickson was born, the daughter of Albert and Florence (Price) Erickson. She has one brother, Norris Norman. Shirley attended the Van Vliet school, Hesper #4, for eight years and then spent two years at Burr Oak High School. She took Normal Training at Decorah High School the last two years, graduating in May 1939. She taught three years at the Underbakke school, Burr Oak #6. Shirley was a member of the Burr Oak Wonder Workers for ten years until she left for college in 1942. She taught with a State Emergency Certificate at Chester and Hanlontown, IA during the war years when teachers were scarce. She graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College at Cedar Falls in 1948. After midyear graduation, she taught school one semester in Monticello, IA. The next two years she taught business education at Postville, IA. From 1951 to 1956 Shirley
