Mary was a hardworking person. She loved gardening and always raised chickens, even when she moved to town. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake bread. She was a perfectionist in her housekeeping and everything had to be “just so". She was an excellent seamstress and made most of her children’s clothes. She was a very religious person and was always lending a helping hand to relatives and neighbors. She had gallbladder surgery 10 Apr 1940 at the New Hampton Hospital. She came home May 8th and never recovered. She died Jun 10 1940 and was buried at the St. Francis DeSales Cemetery.

Lena (Johnson) and Jens Ehrie

Jergen J. Ehrie was born 6 Oct 1892 in Glenwood Twp., Winneshiek Co., IA, the son of Jens L. and Lena (Johnson) Ehrie. Jens was born 20 Jun 1855 in Lerdahl, Norway to Lassa Ehrie (7 Jan 1825-7 Dec 1880) and Mari Finelgarden (18 Sep 1815-26 Aug 1899). Lena was born to Christian Johanson Nilselokken (23 May 1830-18 Oct 1878) and Randi Guslia Stevens (4 Jun 1835-10 Jan 1883). Christian Johanson Nilselokken's name was changed to Johnson.

Jergen had 7 brothers and sisters: Ruth (Mrs. Arthur Kittleson), Beata (Mrs. Spencer Gilbertson), Juliet (Mrs. Selmer Engen), Johanna (Mrs. Albert Nash), and one half-sister Nora (Mrs. Elmer Smorstad) and two half-brothers Ludvig Johnson (he never married) and Edgar Ehrie (m. Sophia Carlsberg).

Jergen married Marvel Jubeline Vick 26 Oct 1923 at Waukon, IA. Marvel (b. 27 Sep 1898 in Glenwood Twp.) was the daughter of Nels and Karen (Pederson Amunrud) Vick. Nels Vick was born 9 Aug 1855 in Toten, Norway. Karen was born 17 Oct 1859 in Valders, Norway. Marvel had 9 brothers and sisters: Adolph Melvin (m. Louise Amanda Amundson), Olga Lerdine (Mrs. August Prestsater), Herman Joseph, Hilda Josephine (Mrs. Knut Lee), Nora Ameline Charlotte (Mrs. Elmer Bergan), Herfred Dolbert (m. Mary Hellestvedt), Delia Violetta (Mrs. Carl Steen), Clarence Nubert and Epha Selma (Mrs. Morris

Jergen and Marvel resided in Glenwood Twp. until 1926 when they moved to Decorah. They had one child, Lila Coralynn, who was born  in Waukon, IA. Marvel was stricken with polio in 1924 and was an invalid for the rest of her life. Jergen was employed in the mailing department at the Decorah-Posten. He died 19 Dec 1954 and Marvel died 30 Jul 1955. Jergen and Marvel were members of First Lutheran Church and are buried at the Decorah Lutheran Cemetery.

Lila married George Knoke 14 Jan 1946 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. They have 3 children: Janice Elaine (Mrs. Marvin "Butch" Bergmann), Ronald Dean (m. Judy Lerdahl first and Sharon Parent second) and Terry Glenn (m. Kristine Mary Stoen). (See George and Lila (Ehrie) Knoke history.)

Ehrie, Orin and Helen (Geving)

Orin Ehrie was born 7 Sep 1917 in Winneshiek Co., the son of Edgar and Sophia (Carlsborg) Ehrie. Edgar was born 23 Jun 1889 to Jens and Jorgina (Toyen) Ehrie. Sophia was born 14 Feb 1894 to Ole and Augusta (Blilie) Carlsborg. Orin has one sister, Gerda (Mrs. Ingeman Teslow).

Orin attended Lee School #5 in Glenwood Twp. and then helped his father on the farm until he was 18. After that he worked for different farmers. He worked for about 3 years for the Hill family (relatives) in the Manly, la area.

Orin married Helen lola Geving 11 Mar 1943 at the Glenwood Parsonage. Helen was born 4 Aug 1917 in Fillmore Co., MN to Hagbart and Anna (Jacobson) Geving. Hagbart was born 27 Sep 1890 in Allamakee Co. to John and Ingeborg (Johnson) Geving. Anna was born 10 Dec 1887 to John and Hannah (Rygg) Jacobson. Hagbart and Anna were married 11 Mar 1915. Helen had one brother, John Geving (deceased) and has one sister, Arlene (Mrs. Irvin Snitker).

Orin and Helen farmed the Ehrie home place until 1961 when they purchased it from the family. Orin retired from full time farming in 1986. He keeps busy with his many hobbies. He does woodworking, makes violins, violas,
