Ole Tonnes Bringsjord and M. Charlotte H. Josvanger July 11, 1925

Isabell Gustine (Bakken) Josvanger of Madison Twp. She graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City and taught school in Freeport, Scarville, and other schools in the Decorah area. The Bringsjords were members of Decorah Lutheran Church. After farming in rural Winneshiek Co., they moved to Fifth Avenue in Decorah where they lived the remainder of their lives.

They had no children; however 25 nieces and nephews called them Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Ole. Charlotte died 24 Aug 1964 and Ole 17 Mar 1965. Both are buried in the Decorah Lutheran Cemetery. (See the Josvanger

Broghammer, Leo and Regina (Knox)

In the spring of 1883 Charles Broghammer purchased land in Section 3 in Decorah Twp. In Oct 1887 Charles Broghammer and Louise Huber of the Festina area were married in the Catholic Church in Festina. When Charles and Louise celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in Oct 1937 they renewed their vows in that same church where their marriage had taken place.

To this union 9 children were born: Dr. Frank, Simon, Marie, Dr. Ben, Ernest, Leo, and 3 children who died in infancy or as young children.

Charles Broghammer died Mar 1942. Louise died Jun 1945.

Leo Broghammer and Regina Knox were married 19 Oct 1940. Regina was born in Burr Oak Twp. to Thomas and Marie (Cashiniov) Knox. Leo and Regina purchased their farm from the Broghammer estate in the 1950’s. They were the parents of 2 daughters: Mary Regina and Barbara Ann . Mary and Barbara both attended St. Benedict’s grade school in Decorah and graduated from DeSales Catholic High School in Ossian, IA. Both graduated from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN.

After graduation Mary was a nurse in St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN. She married John Baege of Minneapolis, MN 28 Aug 1965. John had graduated from St. Marys College in Winona, MN. He was in graduate school at the University of Iowa at the time of their marriage. Mary worked in the University of Iowa Hospital until John finished graduate school. At that time they moved to Anoka, MN where John teaches biology in the Anoka Senior High School. They have 2 children: Katheleen “Kate”, now an attorney with a firm in Chicago and Steve who is in graduate school at Stanford University in CA.

Barbara was one of a group of students throughout the U.S. who signed up for the Peace Corps in their Junior year of college. They spent the summer between their Junior and Senior years at the University of Notre Dame studying South America and the Spanish language. In July after graduation the group left for their various countries in South America. Barbara was sent to Bolivia where she was involved in Rural Community Development in several small villages in the Cochabomba area of Bolivia. She was there over 2 years. After she returned to Iowa she was employed by the Dept, of Vocational Rehabilitation as a Social Worker and Counselor for the State of Iowa. Barbara and Charles F. McCarty were married 30 Oct 1971 in St. Augustine Church in Des Moines, IA. Charles was a Supervisor in the Vocational Rehabilitation for the State of Iowa. Barbara Broghammer McCarty died of cancer 29 Oct 1989. At the time of her death she was an Assistant Professor at Drake University in Des Moines and Director of Drake National Vocational Rehabilitation Job Development and Placement Institute. Her funeral was held from St. Augustine Church in Des Moines 31 Nov 1989.

Regina Broghammer still resides on the Broghammer farm and in Aug 1983 received the Century Farm Award at the Iowa State Fair. (The temperature in Des Moines that day was 108 Degrees!)

Brooks, Bruce and Jacqueline (Griffen)

Bruce Duane Brooks was born in Decorah, IA the son of William Herbert, Jr. and Dorothy Mae (Vick Brown) Brooks. His father was born  in AlamakeeCo., lA and his mother was born  in Winneshiek Co., IA. (See William and Dorothy (Vick Brown) Brooks family history). Bruce’s sisters are: Rebecca Ann (m. Roger Halverson) and Beth Elaine (m. Dana Kirby). (See their family histories.)

Bruce graduated from Thomas Roberts High School May 1969. He joined the United States Navy Jul 1970. He served aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise and saw 2 tours of duty in the Tonkin Gulf (Viet Nam) in 1971-72. He received an honorable discharge Jul 1974 from Treasure Island, CA with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class.

Bruce married Jacqueline Jackie” Anne Griffen 10 Feb 1974 in San Lorenzo, CA. Jackie is the daughter of Thomas Theodore Griffen (d. 9 Jan 1995) and Patricia Ruth (Delmore) Griffen (d. 10 Jul 1995). She graduated from Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo Jun 1969. Jackie’s brothers and sister are: James Thomas (m. Laura Anne Whitworth); Gerald Bruce (m. Patricia Ann Brown); Jef
