Homer Lund, a Captain, entered the service August 4, 1941. He attended officer's candidate school at Fort Knox, Kentucky and was commissioned in April 1942 in the tank service. He received his wings from the Flying School at Turner Field and served in the southwest Pacific area. He flew over 50 combat missions before being killed in a take-off crash at Clark Field in Luzon, Philippine Islands on April 25, 1945, at the age of 26 years. He was given a military burial at U.S. Cemetery No. 2, Manila.
Wallace D. Lund served in England during World War II. He left for Camp Dodge October 7, 1943 and was assigned to the Air Corps at Sheppard Field, Texas, for his basic training. He attended radio school for five months, graduating and receiving his wings. He took further aerial training at March Field, Calif., before being sent overseas in December of 1944. Sgt. Lund was killed over Germany on February 23, 1945, where he served with the 8th Air Force as a radio operator-gunner on a B-24 Liberator while returning from a mission to Germany. The Air Medal was awarded posthumously to Sgt. Lund, Air Corps, and was received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lund.

Memorial Rites Held for Sgt. Wallace Lund
Rake, Ia. - Memorial services were held at Zion Lutheran church Sunday for Sgt. Wallace Lund, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lund. The Rev. A.N. Brudvig conducted the services and the military services were in charge of the local Gold Star American Legion post.
