MARTIN NOVAK, 71, WEBSTER RESIDENT FOR 60 YEARS, DIES

Martin Novak, a resident of Webster County for 60 years, died at his home; 
2123 Seventh Avenue North, this morning following a short illness. He was 71 
years of age.

Surviving are his widow, one son, Lawrence Novak of Fort Dodge; and five 
daughters, Mrs. P. J. Husske of Medelia, MN; Mrs. Otto Block of Danube, MN; 
and Mrs. William Hepperle of Fort Dodge. Nine grandchildren also survive as 
do two brothers, Joseph Novak of Fort Dodge and Frank Novak of Muscatine. 
Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Novak came to Webster County with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. 
Joseph Novak, when he was 11 years old. He married Miss Eva Lohr of this 
city, May 6, 1889. They lived on a farm near Industry until 1931 when they 
retired and moved into Fort Dodge. Had Mr. Novak lived until May 6 of this 
year, he and his wife would have celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary, 
an event which he had looked forward to with great anticipation.

Well-liked because of his pleasing personality, and friendly manner, Mr. 
Novak had a wide circle of friends and the quality of retaining them. His 
family was very dear to him during his last illness.

The body is at the Laufersweiler Funeral Parlors and will be taken to the 
home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Funeral services will take place Saturday 
morning at 9 o'clock at the home and at 9:30 at Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. 
C. P. Sweeney will officiate and burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery.

HEART ATTACK CAUSES DEATH OF MRS. MARTIN NOVAK

"Dies Suddenly at the Home of Her Daughter, Tuesday"

Mrs. Martin Novak, 70, a pioneer settler of Webster County, died very 
suddenly Tuesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William 
Hepperle, four miles north of the city. A heart attack was the cause of death.

Mrs. Novak who lived at 2123 Seventh Avenue North, had been visiting her 
daughter in the country for a few days and had planned to return home Tuesday 
afternoon. She apparently had been in her usual health until taken suddenly 
ill the early part of the afternoon with a heart attack which caused her 
death.

She came to Webster County with her parents, the Late Mr. and Mrs. Michael 
Lohr, when she was a little girl. Her marriage to Martin Novak took place May 
7, 1880. Mr. Novak died April 21, 1938. Had he lived until May 7 of that 
year, they would have celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary, an 
occasion to which they had looked forward with great anticipation.

Mrs. Novak is survived by six children. They are Mrs. Pat Husske of Medelia, 
MN, Mrs. G. E. Campbell of Bovy, MN, Mrs. Otto Block and Mrs. Fred Block of 
Danube, MN; Lawrence of Gilmore City and Mrs. Hepperle of Fort Dodge. Two 
brothers, Peter Lohr of Fort Dodge and Henry Lohr of Omaha, and a sister, 
Mrs. Henry Scheff of Winthrop, MN; also surviving as do ten grandchildren.

FUNERAL FRIDAY

Funeral services will take place Friday morning at 8:30 o'clock at the home 
2123 Seventh Avenue North, and at 9 o'clock at Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. 
Father C. P. Sweeney will conduct the services and burial will be in Corpus 
Christi Cemetery. The body will be at the Laufersweiler Funeral Home until 
Thursday morning when it will be taken to the home.

Mrs. Novak will be affectionately remembered by a wide circle of friends 
because of her sweet nature and the many kindnesses which she was always 
performing. She was a very vital and enthusiastic person with a great loyalty 
to her friends. The members of her family were a great source of pleasure to 
her and she spent many happy hours with them.
