Lanny
Ottosen's Family Treemaker site
The Ottosen line of my family originates
in Stord, Norway, just north of Haugesund dating back to the early 1600's.
After the sudden death of Otto Jensanes (1831 - 1863), his widow Ase Romsaland
(1826 - 1911) came to America with four young son's, and she known as Elsie
Ottosen. They originally settled in Illinois in the Fox River Valley area
where there was a large Norwegian settlement, eventually moving to Creston,
Illinois which is in Ogle County. Two of these son's moved to Iowa after
graduating from school and contributed to the formation of businesses and
were active in politics in Humboldt and Webster Counties in the late 1800's.
Christopher Ottesen (1862 - 1947) left his mark in Humboldt County by founding
the town of Ottosen, he died a bachelor and is buried there. Otto Ottosen
(1859 - 1918) moved on to Badger and Fort Dodge and had 4 children, he
founded the first bank in Badger and operated lumber, grain and coal business
in several towns in the area. Otto Ottosen is my great grandfather. This
website gives genealogical and biographical information about many of my
Ottosen and Hill ancestors.
