Dr J. Harvey McCall came to Allerton, a

He was a graduate of

time.
He was one of Allerton’s leading
citizens. He
made house calls day and
night by horseback, foot and car. When
Wayne County built a new hospital, he was Chief of
Staff.
In 1955, the citizens of Allerton gave him
a surprise “Dr. McCall Day”, with a program in his
honor fashioned after the TV
– “This is Your Life”.
It started at his
office behind the drug store, led by the H. S. Band,
to the school
gymnasium. Forrest
P. Hagen, former
Supt. of the Allerton School, was master of
ceremonies. The
citizens of Allerton presented Dr. McCall
with a set of keys to a new 1955 Ford. A
letter from the Rock Island railroad chief, cited
Dr. McCall for his 30 years
of Allerton for the Rock Island Lines.
Over 100 babies he had delivered were seated
together during the
program.
He served Allerton faithfully for 57
years, until his death in 1965. He was
our last resident physician. His
office building is now the home of Mrs.
Ola Cobb.
