Allerton, Iowa Centennial,
CEMETERY
In 1875, Col. B. S. Jones owned the cemetery
and at that time the Allerton Town Council surveyed
and fenced, and transferred its care and custody to
the Town of Allerton.
The Cemetery was bought from Col. B. S. Jones
in March, 1880, for $250.00. Joe Evans
was appointed Sexton.
At that time the cemetery was enclosed with a
wooden fence and the sexton was instructed to remove
the top board around the cemetery, dispose of the
same and put barbed wire in its place. Ira King
donated part of his land for part of the cemetery. Ed Fennell
helped dig the first grave. It was dug
for a young girl named Hall, who lived across the
road from the Will Fennell home.
