The 37th Regiment was mustered into service of the U. S. at Muscatine, Iowa, December 15, 1862, by Capt. H. B. Hendershott of the U. S. Army, and they were mustered out May 24, 1865.

Further research shows that there were six Wayne County men in the “Graybeard” regiment.
