| Amboy Astoria |
Established September 29, 1851 in the southwest
part of Oregon Township. The Post Office was moved to Ainsworth March 24,

According to the provisions of the act of establishing
Slaughter County, the seat of justice was located in Astoria. The first
court met here May 7, 1838. The town was laid out in Oregon Township and
the Post Office established October 9, 1839 just south of Ainsworth. |

Located in both Washington and Louisa counties (just
on the east side of Highland township) the post office was established August
21, 1897 and disbanded March 31, 1904. |

Listed as a post office in Washington County August
8, 1851 and disbanded February 24, 1852, but th location was not found. |

Established October 11, 1849 and disbanded October
3, 1881. Revived from October 21, ___ and disbanded April 30, 1906. in Clay
township. The Iowa Central Railroad was built through Clay. |

A town laid out in September 1854 by Lewis Longwell
in Lime Creek township north of the present town of Wellman. The town
went by the name of Dayton until 1878, when it was changed to Daytonville.
Dayton enjoyed the reputation as the main trading point of the area from
about 1860 to 1880 |

Established in 1855 in Highland Twp., a flood wiped
out the town in 1857. The town died because of the financial failure of
the the founder. In the1870's the entire town was sold for taxes. |
| Haskins |
The town of Haskins began in June 1902, the year
the Milwaukee railway was built through the vicinity. Some fifty names had
been submitted to the government and rejected because there was a town named
like that elsewhere. Finally Haskins was suggested by one of the railway officials. |

in northeastern Marion Township. So named because most of the land was under

Town laid out in April 1865 n southern part of Cedar
township. Located on a stagecoach road from Wasssonville to Washington. A
post office established from 1868 to 1905. With the arrival of the railroad
depot at West Chester, and later at Wellman, trade was drawn away from Lexington
and the town was abandoned. Lexington was nicknames Spankem. |

eastern part of English River township. It was named Middleburg because it

was named for Paris, France by John Reinhart for his native city. Its post

miles east of the present town of Wellman, established on March 3, 1891. Halfway

railway. A ferry was maintained at Wassonville. Due to the semi-annual flooding
the town was almost wiped from the face of hte earth. A post office was establsihed
from 1849 to 1875 |
