SNIDER Abram Schrock-Eureka a.k.a. Schrock Abram Snider was born in 1809 in Preston County, West Virginia. Came to Washington County, Iowa in 1857. His first wife Rachel Freeland died in 1850 in W.Va. His second wife Catherine Francisco came to Iowa with him and his children.  Her grave has not been found but may be in Johnson County where her family settled. Her father was a minister.

DAWSON Isaac and Penelope Woodlawn Penelope Dawson's second husband was my great-grandfather, Joseph Brown. This new tombstone, erected by a Dawson descendant, supplments the original tombstones, which are nearby.
DAWSON/BROWN Penelope Woodlawn Penelope is buried beside her first husband, Isaac Dawson. A new tombstone, nearby, supplements the fallen and eroded original. Penelope's second husband, Joseph Brown, was my great-grandfather (via his third marriage). He is buried at Columbia Cemetery in Marion County, Iowa. The difficult-to-decipher inscription here reads, "Our Mother, Penelope, died July 5, 1870, age 53 years, 1 month, 19 days."
DAWSON Isaac Woodlawn Isaac Dawson is buried next to his wife, Penelope. A new tombstone, nearby, supplements this badly eroded original. The inscription here, almost indeciperhable, reads, "Isaac Dawson, died Sept. 15, 1865, aged 53 years, 9 months, 15 days."
DUNLAP James J. Woodlawn James J. Dunlap, my great-great-great-grandfather, is buried on the same lot as his son, Thomas, wife, Elizabeth, and daughter, Nancy. Much of the inscription is below ground. It reads in full: "James J. Dunlap, Died Dec. 5, 1888, 86 Years."
DUNLAP Thomas Woodlawn Thomas Dunlap is buried between his father, James J. Dunlap, and mother, Elizabeth. Although we know that he died as an adult of tuberculosis the date is unknown. The inscription reads, "Thomas, son of J. J. & E. Dunlap, Aged 28 Years."
DUNLAP Elizabeth Woodlawn Elizabeth Dunlap, my great-great-great-grandmother, is buried on the same lot as her husband, James J., son, Thomas, and daughter, Nancy. We believe she died about 1870. The inscription on her tombstone reads, "Elizabeth, wife of James J. Dunlap, aged 73 years."
DUNLAP Nancy J. Woodlawn Nancy J. Dunlap is buried with her parents, James J. and Elizabeth Dunlap, and brother, Thomas. She died of tuberculosis, as did her brother. The inscription reads, "Nancy J., daughter of J. J. and E. Dunlap, Died March 7, 1858, Aged 21 years, 5 months, 5 days."

The Pleasant Plains or Gibson Cemetery is located about 7.9 tenths of a mile north of the city of Washington, IA . 

Directions

Leave city of Washington, Iowa going west on State Route #1 and #92. Where Route #92 turns left or (West), continue and stay on Route #1 (North). Turn right on paved road (East) "Washington G26 County"; also marked as 190th Street. Continue east about 8 tenths of a mile to the Nutmeg Avenue intersection; which is a North-South gravel road. The cemetery is located on the South East corner of this intersection.



The  cemetery is located on approximately 1 acre of land, at the North West corner of what was the Alexander and his son William A. Gibson farm till about 1908.



The legal description is: Section 19, T.76N.-R.7W.



In 1999 this farm was owned by Harold & Verlee Wylie.
