House of All Nations

undergrd_house

The Rankin House in Crawfordsville at the corner of Main and Columbus, was built by Samuel Rankin
in 1851 as a hotel. It was referred to as the House of All Nations because people of all nations were welcomed here.
There was a strong anti-slavery sentiment in Crawfordsville;
the Rankin House was one of the stations of the Underground Railroad.
The building was torn down in 1912.
